The Astor held many community events from 1929 including dances, balls, flower shows and exhibitions.
In 1954 the next significant development was the advent of CinemaScope. Equipped with state-of-the-art projection equipment and sound system, the Astor began advertising weekly films. Exclusive screenings of Walt Disney’s Peter Pan were held at in 1954. Not long after the theatres 150th birthday in 1971, the theatre fell into a slumber and was used as a storage facility.
